Vasilev Veselin Kostov, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor

Vasilev Veselin Kostov was born on April 27, 1949 in Karnobat (Burgas Region, Bulgaria). In 1971 he graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy and History at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski ”- specialty philosophy with specialization psychology. After brief teaching in high school (1971-1973) and military service (1973-1974 at Vasil Levski High School in Veliko Turnovo) he entered the Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv (1974) as a first assistant professor of psychology at the university, where his entire academic career goes. He was the head of the department and deputy dean of the faculty. He has also taught at 18 other Bulgarian universities and branches, as well as at two foreign universities (Bratislava — Slovakia and Moscow State Psychological and Pedagogical University).
In 1986 he defended his PhD thesis (Doctor of Psychology) and in 1990 he was habilitated as Assistant Professor of Pedagogical and Age Psychology, and in 2006 he defended his PhD in Psychological Sciences and in 2009 he was habilitated as Professor of General psychology.
V. Vasilev’s book Reflection in Knowledge, Self-Knowledge and Practice (2007), which presents the main content of his doctoral dissertation, was awarded the first prize of the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria in the field of humanities in 2007.
Veselin Vassilev is the author of 166 scientific publications (in Bulgaria, Russia, Czech Republic, Poland, Turkey) of which 16 books: 3 monographs and 13 textbooks on psychology for universities and high schools.
His publications cover a wide range of fields and problems of psychological science — general (cognitive and personal), age, pedagogical, social, sports, military, management psychology, psycholinguistics, logic, and more. He has participated in world, European and Balkan scientific congresses and in dozens of scientific forums in Bulgaria.
He has a wide range of topics of his teaching activity — he has delivered dozens of lectures in almost all major fields of psychology in bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
He has prepared 6 successfully defended PhD students (two of them are foreigners), and in the field of the concept of praxiological reflection he has raised and developed, he has further defended 6 theses. He has been a member of the Specialized Scientific Council on Psychology, as well as a reviewer and / or a member of a scientific jury in over 55 dissertation or habilitation procedures.
